Kamal Haasan, Vikram to do Malayalam films for free!

National Award winners, Kamal Haasan and Vikram are all set to do Malayalam films in future for free. Both of them have had umpteen commercial and critical hits in Tamil, Telugu over the past several years but haven’t acted in a direct Malayalam movie for quite sometime.

Kamal Haasan will be seen in a cameo role in Saji Surendran’s Four Friends. The film has Jayaram, Jayasurya, Kunchacko Bobban and Meera Jasmine in lead roles. All the scenes featuring Kamal Haasan will be shot in Chennai. Four Friends will Kamal Haasan’s first Malayalam film since 1987 when he acted in I V Sasi’s Vrutham. Kamal Haasan has reportedly accepted to do this role after listening to the script narrated by Saji Surendran who has films like Happy Husbands and Ivar Vivahitharayal to his credit. Moreover, he’s going to act in the film for free. Although, Kamal Haasan had plans to act in a Malayalam film with Mohanlal during the filming of Unnai Pol Oruvan, it didn’t work out. Four Friends marks the comeback for Kamal Haasan in Malayalam cinema for the first time in 23 years.

Meanwhile, another reigning star Chiyaan Vikram has agreed to act in another untitled Malayalam film to be directed by Roshan Andrews. He had earlier directed Udayananu Tharam and also at the helm of affairs for the upcoming multi-starrer Casanova. When he narrated a script written by Bobby & Sanjay, Vikram was thoroughly impressed. Roshan spoke to the media soon after Vikram’s acceptance and said that he was really happy that Vikram had agreed to act in his film. “Vikram is such a big star but he found time and gave me over two hours for the story narration. He was immersed in it and after that shook my hand and said he will do the film in Malayalam, some time next year after he completes his present assignments in Tamil,” Roshan said. But what impressed Roshan the most about Vikram was the latter’s magnanimity. Vikram has decided to act in this film for free much to the delight of Roshan. “When I asked Vikram about his salary, he said he is going to do it free, as he wants to give back something back to Kerala audiences, who were waiting to see him in a Malayalam film. I was floored by the man’s humble nature and his concern for good cinema,” revealed Roshan. In a career spanning over two decades, Vikram has acted in quite a few Malayalam films although in supporting roles.
