His first film Mouna guru was what you would call a rar hit... It happens when positive word-of-mouth for a film is so strong that just when it is on the brink of being removed from the theatres,it picks up steam and goes on to become a success. Director Shanthakumar shares his thoughts with Pavithra Srinivasan about Mouna guru and more....

 When Mouna guru released in theatres, not many people were interested in it. For one thing, previous releases were still attracting people; another star-movie had released simultaneously, as well. And yet – there was something about this movie, which boasted a taciturn hero, a pregnant police-woman who investigates a crime brilliantly, and a clutch of villains who bring you to the edge of your seat.
